About Me - Philosophy and Approach

There are two key philosophical themes underpinning my professional work. Firstly, my aim is simply to be kind. People recognise kindness and compassion, and the overwhelming majority respond positively to it. I respect my clients’ expressed wishes, and aim to act humanely and sensitively, prioritising their legitimate interests over any other claim, theory or authority. I also I embrace the principles and practice of positive psychology. The aim of this is to nurture individuals and to make normal life more meaningful and fulfilling, not exclusively to treat psychological problems. Furthermore, as a scientific psychologist, I subscribe to the principles of evidence based practice. People seeking executive coaching or psychotherapy want safe and effective solutions to achieve their goals. It is natural for people to wish to gain control over their lives. To gain effective control of events we need to understand their causes. The scientific method is, in principle, applicable to everything and provides the most effective approach for grasping the true nature of ourselves and of those around us. Thus, understanding provides the opportunity to influence events favourably. |
Having worked in a range of scientific disciplines has helped me to clarify and communicate the ideas and principles of science based executive mentoring and cognitive behavioral psychotherapy to clients from diverse backgrounds. The pleasure of finding things out about oneself and other people who feature in our lives, using scientific psychological methods, is often enlightening as well as beneficial. |
